As Dibs and I continue on this mine field of a journey to find our full potential, we need to be specific in defining what is the norm and what is truly us…In a world where societal expectations are like those clingy relatives who never leave the party, it’s time to break free and live our life authentically. The problem is that after 30-40 years of living how we think we suppose too or expect what others would do, its actually hard to define what is the norm and what is not.
Think of it as an escape room, but instead of solving puzzles, you’re shedding societal norms like a snake sheds its skin – only with less hissing.
Dressing to blend in with the crowd? That’s so last season. Prioritize personal comfort and express your individuality through fashion choices that scream, “I’m fabulous and I know it!” Bonus points if your outfit doubles as a conversation starter – who needs small talk when your shirt is basically a mood board?

Social media validation is like chasing after a unicorn – fun in theory, but not particularly productive. Break free from the ‘like’ loop and share content that reflects your true self. After all, your cat doing yoga is far more interesting than another filtered selfie. (I am finding this one to be the hardest to deal with…as we also start our digital journey, so for now we are ignoring this from the list. However we urge you to consider it)
Define Success
As for defining success, forget the corner office or that fancy title. Success Through a Positive Mental Attitude, based on your own values and aspirations. Who needs a gold watch when you can have a collection of quirky socks that would make your grandma proud?
Suppressing emotions to appear strong is so last-century action hero. Give yourself the freedom to express emotions authentically – because sometimes a good ugly cry is just what the therapist ordered.
Eating habits should be about nourishing your body, not following the latest fad diet. Mindful eating is all the rage, and by rage, we mean peacefully enjoying that extra slice of pizza without judgment “Food Freedom” as we call it in our household as part of our WILDFIT Journey. (Dibs will write a blog on this in the future I am sure, but for now if you want to know more drop us a mail and she can answer and questions)
Body image standards are like high school cliques – utterly irrelevant in the real world. Reject societal beauty norms, embrace self-acceptance, and remember that your unique beauty is like a rare Pokemon – gotta catch ’em all!
Hobbies and interests that monopolize should be pursued shamelessly. Don’t let society dictate your interests. If collecting rubber ducks brings you joy, let the quacking commence.
Manage That Time
Time management is your personal playground. Prioritize activities that bring you joy – whether it’s binging on cat videos or conquering the world, create a schedule that nourishes your soul. And don’t forget to schedule nap time, because, let’s be real, adulting is exhausting. If you want to be more organized and get more done in a day The Art of Doing Twice the Work in Half the Time by Jeff Sutherland.
Personal boundaries are not optional. Establish boundaries that scream, “This is my space, stay out!” Respect and communicate those boundaries – it’s like creating a VIP section for your well-being.
Age is just a number, and societal expectations about age are like expired milk – irrelevant. Challenge stereotypes and pursue adventures, career changes, and learning experiences, because who says you can’t learn to ride a unicycle at 60?
Rigid social circles are so yesterday. Open yourself up to new experiences and people – it’s like expanding your social playlist to include more bops and fewer snoozers.
Fear of failure is like fearing a bad haircut – it grows back, and sometimes it even looks better. Embrace failure as an opportunity for growth. Take risks, pursue your goals, and remember that every successful person has a few epic fails in their highlight reel.
People Pleaser
Pleasing everyone is a Herculean task, and let’s face it, you’re not Hercules. Prioritize your needs, desires, and well-being. Trying to please everyone is like trying to herd cats – impossible and likely to result in scratches.
Apologizing excessively is like putting too much hot sauce on your “wors roll” – unnecessary and potentially painful. Express your opinions, desires, and needs without drowning them in apologies. Your voice deserves to be heard, not muffled by unnecessary “I’m sorry’s.”
Breaking social norms is like navigating a quirky obstacle course – start by becoming self-aware, question norms, and embrace discomfort. Be the trailblazer you were born to be, because why fit in when you were born to stand out?
With this in mind, our journey has begun, we making the small changes now working towards the day we’re free of the present stresses and anxieties and can start living our true potential as Responsible…Irresponsible Adults. Stay tuned! 🚀✨
