“Rescue Midlife Dreams, Rediscover Purpose,
Ignite a Daring Journey Forward.”

Where it all started.
During the chilly month of August of 2023, my wife Deirdre (AKA Dibs) and I embarked on a three-week road trip through the Namaqualand and West Coast of South Africa. We were basically living out of our 4×4, and the tent became our temporary five-star hotel (or maybe more like a three-star, depending on how many bugs joined us for dinner).
Between camping escapades and charming BnB stays, we stumbled upon a magical formula: very little cellphone reception plus each other equals maximum enjoyment. It was like a tech detox, but with more fine red wine and fewer withdrawal symptoms.
As we meandered through picturesque landscapes, we realized we wanted more of the good stuff – more breathtaking views, more spontaneous adventures, and a lot less stress. The “aha” moment hit us harder than a mosquito at a summer braai. (barbecue, for the non Springbok supporters).
And thus, the seed of ‘Irresponsible Adults’ was planted – more of what we loved, less of what stressed us out. Now, the rest of the story is a work in progress, kind of like building a sandcastle. But hey, at least we’ve got the blueprint and a bucket load of enthusiasm!
We have given ourselves 12 month. which takes us to the end of 2024, to clear the clutter, sell the house and business so that we can get ready to embark on a journey of a life time. Whatever its going to take and whatever we learn along the way we hope to share with you along the way.

About Grant and Dibs
We had long harbored a sense of disillusionment, feeling distant from the dreams we envisioned when we first married—to travel, experience the world, and revel in a carefree environment. Amidst raising three children, managing a business, and navigating daily responsibilities, we found ourselves ensnared by societal expectations: being “responsible adults”, holding jobs, owning a home, and diligently trying to save for retirement.
In early 2023, our youngest son and his wife sold everything for a spontaneous 7 month trip through Africa. Many praised their decision, attributing it to youth and lack of commitments. This sparked a realization: Why must one be young to pursue your dreams? The common response echoed societal norms of responsible adulthood. Undeterred, we decided it was time to responsibly embrace irresponsibility. And become “Irresponsible Adults”
Our journey to living our full potential commenced with decluttering our garage and home, selling our boat, and putting our house and business on the market. Our objective was to secure a source of income that would allow us to live authentically. After extensive online research, we discovered an organization aligning with our values, needs, and expectations, offering an opportunity to work remotely from anywhere in the world using just a laptop…. The rest is still unwritten!
